5. Infants and Children
CanJet Airlines do not accept Unaccompanied Minors (UM) under the age of 12 years of age (0 to 11 years old inclusive) NO EXCEPTIONS.
Subject to other requirements in this section, an infant over seven (7) days and under two (2) years of age, not occupying a seat, may accompany, free of charge, an adult. A birth certificate will be required to validate the age of all infants under age two as well as photo identification of the legal parents or guardians.
- Note: Infants under seven (7) days will be accepted upon medical authorization from a physician.
- Children under twelve (12) years of age are accepted for transportation when accompanied on the same flight by a passenger at least eighteen (18) years of age, with a notarized letter of permission signed by both parents and or guardians.
- Youths twelve (12) to seventeen (17) years of age may travel internationally but require a notarized letter of authorization from both the parents and or guardians.
- Young Adults – eighteen (18) years of age or older can travel by themselves and do not require an authorization letter.
- Child Restraint System (CRS): If you choose to purchase a seat for the use of a child restraint device (car seat) for your infant or child who is less than forty (40) lbs, the infant/child must be restrained in the approved child restraint device which meets safety standards set by the CMVSS and FMVSS. The child must remain properly secured in the seat at all times when the aircraft seat belt sign is illuminated during the journey. Child restraint devices cannot be used in an exit row or in a seat that would impede access to an aisle or to emergency/safety equipment. Snugglies and booster seats are not permitted to be used as restraining devices on board CanJet.
There are safety restrictions and criteria that a CRS must meet in order to be approved for travel inside the aircraft cabin. Please note the following:
Canadian Manufactured Devices (CMD):
- Must indicate compliance with either CMVSS 213 or 213.1; and
- Indicate the date of manufacture as being after January 1, 1981.
American Manufactured Devices (AMD):

- Bear Label "This child restraint system conforms to all applicable FMVSS".

- Forward facing - restricted to an occupant between 20 and 40 lbs.
- A person over the age of two may occupy an approved CRS provided the weight/height capacities are not exceeded.
- Instructions for the proper use of the device and its weight and height capacities must also be prominently displayed on the device. The weight and height of the person using the child restraint system must be within the system's stated range.
